If anything, his works evoke the forces of nature, also with a sense of the mythological, as in the great cycle Okeanos, where he aims to blend the timbres of oboe, clarinet and viola, with those of the sho and koto, in a universe of kaleidoscopic sound, reverberant and full.

Jul 12, · Okeanos is a rather distinctive instrumental ensemble which mixes traditional Japanese instruments with western ones, so that they mix koto and sho with clarinet, viola and oboe (The full ensemble is mezzo-soprano, koto, sho, shakuhachi, harp, clarinets, oboe/oboe d'amore, viola). But in fact, the group's primary focus is as a new music ensemble.
Dai Fujikura – OKEANOS (world premiere of complete cycle) This was an imaginatively programmed concert with some technically polished performances from this enticing array of contemporary music players. Curated by composer Dai Fujikura, the concert included solos and duos as well as a larger ensemble work performed by the quintet OKEANOS.
"At Ewenny Priory, the two premieres were given by the group Okeanos were for oboe, clarinet, viola and harp. It is a combination in which the viola’s role is both distinctive and tricky, since it shares some of the clarinet’s lower register, while its plaintive timbre echoes the oboe.
